After reading your post, I am happy to report I am tear free!!! See, us chicks don't cry over EVERYTHING! (hugs)
ReplyDeleteRomance comics really are so lovely when you break them down by individual panel! Believe it or not, there are even some romance stories where the GUYS shed tears!!!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, you don't by chance have a list of which books those images came out of do you? I would be really interested in seeing it!
Great post!!!
Jacque, I'm so glad you enjoyed this post! Unfortunately, I did not have time to identify every issue from which these panels were extracted. All I can say for sure is that these panels were pulled from DC romance comics from 1957 thru 1968.
ReplyDeleteI did enjoy it! So much so that I linked to it in my blog, Sequential Crush. Thanks again for your awesomeness!
ReplyDeleteHaha, "Being wrong". We are lousy people. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAnother splendid post. Brings a tear to my throat and a lump to my eye. I felt sorry for the guy tormented by his go-go boot fixation.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the plug on SC, Jacque! As a matter of fact, I picked romance comics as the theme for this installment of "Panels 66" only after discovering your wonderful blog, a link to which is now in my blogroll. Love the melanin-challenged lovers, or maybe they've just been inundated with bird droppings?
ReplyDeleteI thought you might like that! No problem on the plug, I just had to share the geniusness (is that a word?)! I am looking forward to more romance posts in the future!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the way that she thinks, "Maybe... this is a beginning for us... and not an end!" right before the little caption scrap-of-paper says, "THE END."
ReplyDeleteThat's just cruel narration.
LOL @ "psychoactive substances!"
ReplyDeleteSo funny! And, i'm ashamed to say, i had to save some of those beautiful images... Thanks:)
ReplyDeleteI laughed until I cried!
ReplyDeleteHello! Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI am ashamed to admit that I do actually cry at sudden rains, but only if I'm caught in them. There is nothing I despise more in life than stomping around in soggy shoes.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite was "Having an unsightly elbow wart" LOL
ReplyDeleteThank you for going to all that trouble.
This post made me cry.
ReplyDelete(Reminded me of the dog track.)
I had a blast!
it's like I'm every single one of those girls and have cried for every single one of those reasons. twice. you know everything about the womens now.
ReplyDeleteTypographical errors.
ReplyDeleteThey make me cry too. It's okay.
I cried with laughter.
ReplyDeleteSee, MEN CRY TOO.
I laughed 'til I... noticed what time it was and god shouldn't I get to work already?
ReplyDeleteThis was fantastic, thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome.
ReplyDeleteThat was so very good, the best post I have read in a long time, nice one.
ReplyDeleteLoving Dick too much made me splurt tea over my lap top
I am going to put a link in my blog, please let me know if that is OK.
Knock yourself out, Braindance!
ReplyDeleteLOLLER good humour i luv it XDDDD
ReplyDeletemy favs: sudden paralysis, gaining weight, caring too much, being evicted, hypotermia, knowledge, being pitied, the bill thing.
LOLLER
"Loving Dick too much."
ReplyDeleteOh God. My stomach hurts from all the laughing.
Fantastic, probably funniest blog post i read in ages!
ReplyDeletecrazy i got it!! spent a whole day on your blog. this is the cream right here. respect due kind sir.
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm writing my senior thesis on women in comics as well as the intersection of fine arts and comic books and I was wondering if I could have the artist and original publishing credits for some of these panels so I can look up more about the. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAlicia, I will be glad to assist you with your thesis, but I need to do a little research, as I didn't record the info you are seeking (D'oh!). How much time do we have?
ReplyDeleteFantastic. I put a link on my blog too, TIGER BUTTER.
ReplyDeleteIt is very interesting for me to read that post. Thank you for it. I like such topics and everything connected to them. BTW, why don't you change design :).
ReplyDeleteAmazing... I would like your blessing to post a couple of these in my classroom... One will go nicely with teaching about Andrew Jackson... and perhaps few by my door remind folks of the horrors of forgetting their #2 pencils on test day....I teach US History...
ReplyDeleteYes, D, by all means, have at it!
ReplyDeleteObbop, really? Pornography? In DC's 1960's romance comics? I am perplexed by that assessment. Care to elaborate?
ReplyDeleteWait, Ringo is married?!?!??!
ReplyDeleteWHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME!! :(
NO NO NO!
Fantastic, probably funniest blog post i read in ages!
ReplyDeleteSure, women cry over nothing...in the cartoons that men draw. Stereotype much?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, "Why Chicks Cry" is not a reflection of my own personal feelings towards women. It's merely a riff on the fact that romance comics featured crying women every ten panels or so. I'm making fun of the stereotype, not endorsing it.
ReplyDeletebrilliant. i fall into all of these categories at present...
ReplyDeletethis post have steered away my crying for the moment though !
curious.
ReplyDeleteMany of these panels are taken from http://comicallyvintage.tumblr.com - Our blog is covered by a CC license that requires a link back to our blog. Please fix this! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this I'm not quite sure If I should be offended or Laughing my head off...
ReplyDeleteFunny stuff. I collect these types of comics.
